Taking pride in a consistent and diligent oral hygiene routine is one of the cornerstones to maintaining long-term oral health. Unfortunately, there are still times when even the most effective oral hygiene routine fails to prevent a cavity from forming on one of your teeth.

Common telltale signs that a tooth has developed a cavity include a change in texture, a sharp edge, and increased sensitivity. If you experience any of these symptoms you should contact Dr. Keven R. Mills as soon as possible. Caught early, he can often repair a modest sized cavity with a basic filling. Left to its own devices even a small cavity can lead to serious complications.

Dr. Keven R. Mills will start by conducting a thorough examination of the tooth in question. It’s important to determine the extent of the decay. If too much enamel has been compromised he might recommend restoring the tooth with a crown. Dr. Keven R. Mills will then numb the tooth and gums before using a drill to remove any areas of decayed enamel. Once he has a clean enamel surface to work with a filling can be applied.

Amalgam and composite plastic or porcelain are industry standard materials used in fillings. Amalgam and composite materials can be directly applied to the cavity, and our practice is pleased to offer both composite and amalgam dental fillings for our patients.

If you suspect a cavity has formed on one of your teeth, we invite you to contact Dr. Keven R. Mills’s office in Granite Bay, California at 916-915-5108 to have it diagnosed, treated and repaired.
