Each dental crown is cemented in place with a strong dental-grade adhesive. While this is meant to hold the tooth in your mouth for many years ahead, poor oral hygiene practices and oral trauma could potentially cause a crown to fall out of place.

In a situation like this, you need to call 916-915-5108 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Keven R. Mills as soon as possible. This is important for minimizing even more serious complications.

It’s important that you don’t attempt to brush or floss any of the exposed abutment or the crown. This could potentially damage the abutment. If a blow to the face left blood or debris in your mouth, you can gently rinse them away with lukewarm saltwater. Any other necessary cleaning procedures should be left to Dr. Keven R. Mills and his highly trained dental staff.

If gum disease has allowed bacteria to weaken the cement that is anchoring your crown, you should see the abutment sticking out of your gums. It will usually look like a small nub of gray/white dentin. The crown itself should be completely hollow.

If the abutment remains intact, Dr. Keven R. Mills might be able to clean the crown and cement it back in place. If the crown itself was damaged but the abutment is still sound, he might need to take an impression to have a new crown made.

If you live in the Granite Bay, California, area and you have a problem with your crown, you should not delay in calling 916-915-5108 to have it treated at Keven R. Mills, DDS.
